The driver of the taxi, a 58-year-old man, escaped without serious harm.

Traffic was disrupted until around 6pm while investigation and clear-up work was carried out.

Police officers were yesterday waiting to speak with the pair as their investigation into the cause of the crash continues.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 3.30pm to a road traffic collision resulting in a serious injury.

“A motorbiker had been travelling down Park Road and had come off after being involved in a collision with a black London-style taxi.

“The motorbiker had an open fracture to his leg and an ambulance was called to the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made.”

One witness said she saw the Yamaha bike lying in the middle of the road while traffic officers redirected traffic away from the scene.

“I just hope everyone is okay,” she said.

Another said the road was cordoned off between Condor Grove and Cunliffe Road.
