MP '˜delighted' by Fylde job figures
A fall in unemployment in Fylde has been welcomed by MP Mark Menzies.
Government figures for last month show a year-on-year and month-on-month reduction in the number of jobless in the constituency to 710 – 25 lower than April 2017 and 10 lower than March 2018.
The figures also show a fall in young people’s unemployment in the past 12 months. There were 120 claimants aged 18-24 in April 2018, 25 lower than 12 months earlier.
Mr Menzies said: “I’m pleased to see unemployment falling in Fylde. The Government has been steadfast in its bid to get Britain working again.
“We now have a record high employment rate in the UK of 75.6 per cent, and in Fylde, the total number of unemployed claimants is just 1.9 per cent.
“I’m even more delighted to see wages rise by 2.9 per cent – higher than inflation .”
The Fylde unemployment claimant rate of 1.9 per cent of the economically active population aged 16-64 compares to a national rate of 2.9 per cent.
