Fairhaven Lake’s fleet of motorboats is returning to full strength with the addition of the boats, at a cost of around £5,000 each.

The white, fibre-glass ‘Orkney’ boats will be added to the eight existing craft for the Easter start of the tourism season.

Coun Cheryl Little, chairman of Fylde Council’s tourism and leisure committee, said: “They look quite sporty and should go down a storm with children and families.

“Some of our older boats were very dated and unreliable, so we scrapped them and placed new orders.

“Orkney Boat, the company supplying them, is known for quality so I’m confident we will get many years of good service from them.

“Three of the eight existing boats are almost antiques now.

“We have badged them as our ‘Heritage Fleet’ as they are made of teak and they remain very popular.

“We now have a first-class fleet of boats for hire to residents and tourists.

“Fairhaven has always been popular with families and I’m sure these new boats will help cement that appeal.”
