New chapter as technology is upgraded for libraries in Blackpool

The new equipment embraces cloud-based technology and can also be used for tasks ranging from word processing and producing documents to searching the internet, using email, gaming and much more.

To make the most of the new machines, members need to get themselves a Google account.

Staff will be on hand to train and advise people on how to use the new computers.

Coun Gillian Campbell, Blackpool Council’s deputy leader, said: “Our new Google Chrome-based machines are a huge upgrade on our old computers and allow users to do so much more.

“There are always staff on hand to help out if you’re confused or unfamiliar with the technology and we’re also running courses to help people familiarise themselves with the system.

“The new equipment will make using the computers a lot easier and hassle-free than before in a way that will benefit absolutely everyone.

“By installing these new computers, the council is investing in one of the most important parts of the local community – libraries – which local people always tell us are hugely important to them.”

The new equipment, which does contain USB ports but are without CD drives, has already been trialled at Palatine Library and proved highly successful, with excellent customer feedback.

Residents are advised to call into their local library to try out the new equipment or ask a member of staff for support.
