The Paris Casino on Bloomfield Road has been sold to Liverpool-based State Casino in a move which has secured all 70 jobs at the venue.

General manager Dov Haase, who has nearly 30 years experience in the gaming industry, says the future is looking brighter for the venue.

He said: “The casino was struggling before we took it over and we have secured all 70 jobs and are investing in the fabric of the building.

“We are going to refurbish the bar area and rearrange the gaming area, with a planned investment of between £60,000 and £70,000.

“A lot of people now see visiting a casino as mainstream entertainment and our aim is to provide relaxed surroundings.

“It is not about coming here and losing your shirt, it is about seeing it as part of your evening’s entertainment. We are marketing the venue to also attract people from out of town, because the next nearest casinos after Blackpool are in Liverpool and Bolton.”

Mr Haase, who lives in Ansdell with his wife and three children, said he jumped at the chance of running a casino close to home.

He added: “The owner of State Casino owns property in Liverpool including the Hard Day’s Night Hotel.

“He has placed his confidence in me because I know this area.” Mr Haase’s previous experience includes setting up the Leo Casino in Liverpool with an investment of £6.5m. It was sold three years later for £14.7m.
