Coun Karen Henshaw, who represents Heyhouses Ward, said: “There are six or seven caravans and cars on the field.

“There are also a number of dogs running loose.

“I know council staff have already visited the site.

“I have asked residents to report any anti-social behaviour by calling 101.

“The field is used by a lot of young footballers.

“There were also plans for a family fun day at the field and those activities might not be able to go ahead if the travellers do not move.”

Officials from Fylde Council visited the fields yesterday and have already begun the legal process to removed the travellers.

A spokesman for Fylde Council said: “The council were made aware of the travellers at 10pm on Sunday evening, a welfare assessment was been completed first thing on Monday morning and each caravan was being issued with a notice to leave and a request to attend court for formal proceedings to clear the site.”

Court hearings were due to take place at 2pm yesterday.
