Tours of the Lowther complex will be available and it is particularly hoped to attract families to the event, which runs from 10.30am to 1pm.

It will include free storytelling workshops for children aged five and over while parents take a look at the plans and chat to the theatre manager and trustees.

Tours will be available every 15 minutes and refreshments available. Lowther manager Roger McCann said: “It is a free event and it will be a fun morning. Along with the opportunity to take a tour of the theatre and see the plans for the refursbishment, we also have the wonderful Lowther café and gardens so families can enjoy all our other facilities at the same time.”

The proposed £5.25m refurbishment, with work on the first phase set to start this summer, will include a new-look foyer, hoped to include a tourist information centre, along with a host of other facilities. The aim is for the last of its three phases to be completed in time for Lowther’s centenary in 2021.

The opportunities to have names etched on glass and to buy seats in the new-look venue have promoted an enthusiastic response.

An anonymous £100,000 donation provided a major boost to the Love Lowther fund and proceeds from a concert by band Collabro last month raised £9.500.

Roger added: “Architect Andy Wolfe has been keen to reflect the history of the Pavilion – he’s managed to pay homage to what was here in 1921 and also incorporate key features which dominate the town’s architecture.”
