The West Coast Main Line operator marked Queen Elizabeth’s birthday with Union Jack wrapped chocolates.

They were supplied by Whitehills based firm Coronation Confectionery Promotions which specialises in manufacture and supply of promotional confectionery products.

Founded in 1987 and based in Blackpool since 1990, it made nearly 18,000 Neapolitan chocolates to be given to Virgin Trains customers, as a gift to at the Station-to-Station Queen’s Birthday Celebrations events at selected stations along the West Coast.

Andy Bradbury, managing director of Coronation Confectionery Promotions, said: “We have worked closely with Virgin Trains for several years and are proud to be working with them to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90 th Birthday.

“Our Neapolitan chocolates are British-made and complete with the Union Jack design on the wrappers, so are a tasty little patriotic treat.” He said the company looks forward to years where special events take place and had a particularly busy time when the 2012 Olympics were held in London.

He said: “This year is a busy one with the Queen’s 90th, the European Championships and the Olympics coming up. We also tend to be busy as you would expect ahead of celebrations such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter. We have more than 100 different lines but we do a lot of bespoke orders which we often have to turn around with short lead in times.

“We can get asked for all kinds of obscure products. It can be a challenge, but it is one we try to meet. We have been doing it for a long time and you learn to adapt.”

Virgin Trains has been working with Coronation Confectionery Promotions for nearly five years.

They supply the Pendolino jelly beans available in the on board shop and regularly produce exclusive Virgin Trains branded items for special occasions, such as chocolate coins at Christmas and Rock sweets in the Virgin Trains First Class lounges.

Amanda Smit, Head of Catering at Virgin Trains on the West Coast, said: “We’re passionate about the products we serve along the West Coast and were keen to have a local supplier play a part in celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday. We’re really pleased to have Coronation Confectionery Promotions on board and their specially-made chocolates are perfect for our Queen’s Birthday celebrations.”
