Paula inspires cash mission for Trinity

Paula Young, of Calder Avenue, Fleetwood, died on January 24 and spent her final week in Trinity Hospice.

The devoted care she received at the Bispham hospice, on Low Moor Road, prompted Paula’s husband Colin to try and help them.

Colin, 47, who works as a civil engineer and is a junior football coach in his spare time, has organised a 2.2 mile sports run at King George’s Playing Field followed by a Fun Day Fleetwood Cricket Club, both on Saturday May 6.

Friends of the family, Maxine Emslie and Denise Wilkinson, are helping to organise the event and intend a small amount of the funds raised to help the four children whom Paula has had to leave behind.

Colin said: “Without all the help I have received from all sorts of people, including Trinity Hospice, I don’t know how I would have got through it.

“It is still tough but I was so impressed by the wonderful things they do at Trinity Hospice.

“Paula spent her final week there and it is a beautiful place.

“They rely on fund-raisers so I thought I’d do something to help.

“I’d just like to thank everyone who have helped me and the kids at this difficult time.

“I am a football coach at Fleetwood Gym and everyone there couldn’t have been nicer.

“Most of the money from this event will go to Trinity Hospice but some of her friends have been helping me, I call them the Golden Girls”.

“They wanted a small amount of it to go to the children so I have said OK to that.”

The couple’s four children are Reece, 20, Paris, 15, Jac, 14 and Olivia, 13.

Maxine Emslie, 41, of Fleetwood, was a close friend of Paula and is helping to organise the event in May.

Maxine said; “Paula was the sort of person who would always help others so the least we can do is to try and help her family, as well as Trinity Hospice.

“She was always fundraising for her children’s clubs, she would be the first person to offer support in any way she could, whether it be her time or collecting prizes for raffles.”

The fun run in May takes place at 2pm and the Fun Day event will be from 6.30pm until late.
