A look inside Fleetwood's Lighthouse View housing project which finally launches next month

A prestigious £12 million 'extra care' housing project in Fleetwood is set to welcome its first residents late next month - after delays of almost a year.

Lighthouse View, on the corner of Chatsworth Avenue and Wansbeck Avenue on the West View estate, is one of housing group Regenda Homes' flagship schemes.

It was supposed to be finished and ready to accept residents by December last year, but progress came to a dramatic halt when contractor, Bardsley Construction, entered administration before Christmas.

Regenda brought in its in-house contractor, M&Y Construction, to finish the work but then the progress was stopped again by the lockdown in late March.

However, the housing group says this large scale development will be 'handed over' as a finished project in November.

There are 72 high quality, one and two bedroom apartments available to rent through Regenda for people aged 55 and over who want their independence but will have care and support available, should it be needed.

It will also feature a cafe for residents, which will be open to members of the public.

Images have now been released by Regenda showing the building's communal lounge and reception area.

A spokesman for the housing group said: "We’re expecting handover of Lighthouse View in November, with residents moving in soon after completion.

"We’re in regular communications with residents and will be arranging individual move-in dates very soon."

The scheme, which has replaced a smaller Regenda housing scheme, Wansbeck Hosue, which was demolished three years ago, has not been without controversy, however.

A number of near neighbours of the new building, living on Chatsworth Avenue, Wansbeck Avenue and The Croft, claim the construction process was so overpowering it caused cracks in the walls and ceilings of their homes and left the area covered in dust.

There was also opposition when the plans were first lodged with Wyre Council, with objectors claiming the height and scale of the building, which dwarfs the homes around it, made it unsuitable for the site.

And there was anger when the application was then dealt with by delegated powers, instead of coming up for debate by councillors at a planning committee,

Regenda says a few apartments at Lighthouse View are still available for those who wish to inquire.
