The sons of a Careleton woman who survived Covid-19 have praised the NHS workers who lovingly cared for her and helped her back from the brink.

Marjorie Brunskill, 83, was living in a care home on the Fylde coast when she became ill with the virus at the beginning of May.

Grandmother Marjorie went into hospital and NHS staff cared for her there for three weeks, as she fought the potentially lethal disease.

The virus took its toll and frail Marjorie lost weight and was perilously weak.

But she battled through, with the vital care and devotion of the health team looking after her in ward 23 of Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Her two sons, Clive and Adam Brunskill, have called her care team real life heroes, potentially putting their own health at risk as they nursed Marjorie and other vulnerable patients.

Marjorie pulled through and finally tested negative for the virus and Adam took her back to his own home, where she is slowly recovering and continues to be cared for each day by crisis care members of the ICAT (Intermediate Care Allocation Team).

Clive, 54, a professional sports photographer, said: “The NHS workers are fantastic to do what they do, I really admire them and we’re both so grateful to them.”

Fireman Adam, 52, of Carleton, said: “The team on ward 23 were outstanding, they saved mum when her health was on the floor, they’re all heroes.

“The crisis workers have really made sure she gets incredible care since she came out of hospital too.

“Mum’s on the road to recovery but she’s not out of the woods yet, I honestly thought we’d lost her.”

Clive, based in Altrincham, works for media firm Getty Images Inc and took these pictures of crisis team workers Angela and Claire looking after Marjorie at Adam’s home.

He wants his photos to provide a lasting record of the excellent work of NHS workers all over the country, some of whom have lost their lives to Covid-19.
