Covid infections plunge to lowest in months

Covid-19 infections across all parts of the UK have fallen to the lowest level since the autumn, new figures suggested.

According to the latest estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), around one in 480 people in private households in England had Covid-19 in the week to April 10 – down from one in 340 the previous week.

This is the lowest figure since the week to September 19 2020, when the estimate stood at one in 500.

In the seven days to April 11, Blackpool’s infection rate per 100,000 people was 12.9, down from 20.1, official figures showed.

Fylde’s was 23.5, up from 13.6 (with 19 confirmed cases, up from 11.

And Wyre’s remained at 11.6 with 13 confirmed cases two weeks running.
