Fire crews battle electrical substation fire in Blackpool

Firefighters were called to a fire at a substation in South Shore this morning.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue (LFRS) were called at 11.10am to a fire at a substation near Blackpool retail park, on the junction of Squires Gate Lane and St Anne's Road, they said.

Two fire engines from South Shore and St Anne's were sent to the fire, with firefighters still on the scene using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, dry powder extinguishers and a ventilation unit.

No injuries were reported, but the fire resulted in thousands of properties and businesses across South Shore losing power.

Electricity North West were also sent to the scene.

An Electricity North West spokesman said: "We are aware of an outage in Blackpool, where we had 14,000 customers without power.

"Our engineers are on site now working to fix this fault and have now got it down to 7,208 customers affected."
