Water rescue dogs dressed up on the prom and pulled a sleigh for Blackpool Working Newfoundlands

Eight giant dogs took a break from working to do a heartwarming festive meet and greet on Blackpool prom.

The Blackpool Working Newfoundlands took a break from their usual duties and donned their cutest Christmas bibs for a special night on the Comedy Carpet.

The wooly water dogs spent the evening, on Fri 15 December, meeting the public and showing off some of their skills by pulling a cart full of prezzies.

It was all to raise money for the relatively new charity, Blackpool Working Newfoundlands, run by Paramedic Kris Schofield and his wife Brooke.

Kris told the Blackpool Gazette: "We were touched by how many people took the time to come and say hello and make us feel welcome, and being a Blackpool based group it means so much to have the support of our locals. The public reaction was incredible."

The charity are affiliated with the Northern Newfoundland Club (NNC), and aim to improve water safety awareness, act as fundraising ambassadors for local charities, and perform demonstrations of the dogs working abilities.

The dogs that ventured out included BWNs most experienced water rescue dog Mitch, his brother Hobie (both named after Lifeguards from Baywatch), and they were joined by their friends Lottie and Nova (Sisters), Charlie, Kuma, and our two very handsome award winning Leonberger members Mac and Havoc.

Kris, who looks after around 20 dogs at their Bispham headquarters, added: "The dogs LOVED meeting everyone, afterwards they were too excited to sleep, so they all had a lazy day off the next day. The fundraiser was definitely a success, and we were moved by the generosity of so many people in these difficult times."
