Lytham Hall set for biggest season of outdoor plays yet

The biggest programme of outdoor theatre yet is set for Lytham Hall’s grounds this summer.

The 11th season at the Hall - also the scene of a planned six-day musical festival in late August - has been scheduled to feature seven performances of six productions by four different companies.

The plays programme is due to start on June 18, when Shakespeare’s Macbeth will be presented by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, making their Hall debut.

Lancashire comedian Steve Royle, third in TV’s Britain’s Got Talent last autumn, will be back for two performances in his starring role as Victorian music hall legend Dan Leno on Friday, July 9 and two days later Rain or Shine Theatre will present restoration comedy She Stoops to Conquer.

Illyria, celebrating 30 years of summer touring, will bring all of their three 2021 productions to the Hall in August – The Further Adventures of Dr Dolittle on Friday the 13th, Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing two days later and Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore on the 22nd.

Julian Wilde, organiser of the outdoor theatre season, said: “All four companies are committed to providing their productions safely.”

Hall assistant manager Paul Lomax added: “I am expecting significant demand for tickets.”
