Gujarat Hindu Society President Mr Dashrathbhai Nayee wrote in his letter of condolence: “The Hindu Community of Preston recognise the incredible way in which the Duke executed his duties to our country. At this time of immense grief we offer the Royal family our sincere thoughts and prayers.”

After the vigil he also praised the Duke for his work as an “ambassador for young people” through his establishment of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and as a “loyal support” to the Queen and their children. He noted: "This award has helped so many young people build their confidence and self-development around the world."
