Police to probe fans disorder at AFC Fylde game

Fylde’s keeper Rhys Taylor had a bottle of liquid thrown at him from the area of the terrace where hundreds of Darlington fans were housed during AFC Fylde’s 4-1 win over The Quakers on April 1.

Fans invaded the pitch following Darlington’s goal with police called to usher a group of spectators away from the ground at the end of the game.

A statement from Darlington FC said: “We would like to thank everyone who provided us with statements, videos and images of events that day.

“As a result, the Board of Darlington Football Club has banned two individuals from attending matches at Blackwell Meadows until further notice.

“We have also provided information to the police in order that they can consider what further formal action might be appropriate.

“We are working closely with Durham Constabulary which is assisting Lancashire Police with the post-match investigation and subsequent action.

“We believe that we have evidence of an individual who threw a full container of liquid at the Fylde goalkeeper, and we have asked the police to investigate this.

“We have also obtained a photographs of individuals who we believe were underage and consuming alcohol.”

A spokesman for AFC Fylde, which is one of the few clubs in National League North which allows alcohol to be consumed on the terraces, said: “We have shared footage with Darlington and our stewarding team dealt well with all the issues on the day. We are constantly reviewing all our practices to ensure that all supporters have the best possible match day experience at AFC Fylde.”
