The scheme would see three massage rooms in operation on the ground floor of premises on Cookson Street if it gets the go ahead.

The applicant says “the proposed massage parlour is conducive with the council’s broader objectives of promoting more healthy communities”.

Planning documents accompanying the submission add: “The treatments will be focused around Thai massage practices which have a number of positive health benefits.

“This business will offer treatments known to relieve aches, back pain, muscle pain and spasticity, joint stiffness and pain, increase flexibility and range of motion, and improve circulation.

“Customers will be expected to book an appointment, rather than walk-in treatments.”

The application adds the business would “sit in an area which includes a variety of different retail and commercial uses, including other massage parlours and health facilities along Cookson Street.

“The proposals are therefore considered an appropriate use in this location and are deemed entirely acceptable in principle.”

Up to four jobs would be created including a receptionist and up to three masseuses.

It is proposed to open daily from 10am to 10pm.

The application will go before town hall planners for consideration at a future date.
