Demolition work started at the site of the former Wilko store in Blackpool on Tuesday (September 15, 2020).

The removal of the structure marks the start of the next phase of the Talbot Gateway regeneration scheme, which was has been delayed for nearly two years.

Phase one of the project included the Bickerstaffe House council offices and Sainsbury’s supermarket.

The next stage will pave the way for a new Holiday Inn Hotel and completion of the tramway extension.

The demolition is scheduled to be completed by December at the latest, with construction of the Holiday Inn Hotel and the high street underpass due due to begin in October and November respectively.
