Preston City Wrestling is hosting a benefit show tomorrow night for one of the country’s brightest talents who is fighting cancer.
Fans were shocked by the news that Kris Travis had been diagnosed with the disease last October.
The 31-year-old, from Sheffield, has been undergoing 18 weeks of gruelling chemotherapy after having surgery to remove a tumour in his stomach.
PCW launched an appeal and has already received more than £5,000 in donations for Travis, who in 2013 was voted by Power Slam magazine as one of the top 50 wrestlers in the world.
The former PCW Heavyweight Champion has put his body on the line in countless matches for the company, wowing fans whether facing the best homegrown talents such as Lionheart, T-Bone or Joey Hayes, or international superstars like WWE talents past and present Chris Masters, Kevin Owens and Finn Bálor.
The 6ft 1in grappler will be in attendance at the ‘Shooting Star’ show at Evoque nightclub in Church Street.
Tickets cost £15 with all money to be donated to Travis, to help him cover additional living costs and travel to and from medical appointments.
And wrestling fans are in for a treat, as they will have the chance to see a wide range of performers, many of whom don’t usually compete in the North West, along with PCW’s usual roster, all of whom are working for free.
PCW owner and promoter Steven Fludder said: “I think it’s great I have an opportunity to give back to a man who has helped me grow PCW with his show stealing matches.
“I also have to mention the personal support he has given me while I developed into the promoter you see today. The show is a great way to show that UK wrestling talent are appreciated and it serves a purpose higher than just helping one man.”
Tickets priced £15 are on sale now. Doors open at 5pm for 6pm start.
