Pupils celebrate Strike Lane school 50th in Freckleton

Pupils reached for the sky as their primary school celebrated its half century.

Each one of the 190 pupils at Strike Lane school in Freckleton released a yellow or green balloon to commemorate the primary’s 50th anniversary.

The balloons were in the school colours and headteacher Sarah Bamber said they provided a colourful start to a year of celebration.

“It was a wonderful sight,” she said.

“A few of the children couldn’t wait to let their balloons go, but they all had a lovely time.

“We are also holding a special anniversary event at the school next week which will include afternoon tea and a barbecue.

“We have invited as many former pupils and staff as we can find and people will be able to share their memories of the school.”

The school began life in 1965 and the majority of its pupils were sons and daughters of RAF personnel stationed at nearby Warton.

It is the only non-church primary in the area and pupils will be learning about the history of the primary over the next few months.

Ms Bamber, who has been at the school for nine years, said: “All the pupils and staff are very proud of the school and it is fantastic that we are able to celebrate together.”
