Radio stalwart eyes up a new role as Sheriff
John takes over the role from the outgoing High Sheriff Amanda Parker JP and will be officially sworn in at a special ceremony on April 8.
John is a well-known figure in Blackpool where he has lived all his life and was instrumental in the creation of Radio Wave.

Hide AdHe said: “This is a huge honour for me and my family. I will carry out the work for the people of Lancashire in this historic role to the best of my abilities. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to make a difference and meaningful contribution to the county.”
In the 1990s, John and his wife Danielle lobbied the radio authorities for the resort to have its own radio station, before winning the licence and launching Radio Wave.
John used this as a platform to continue and grow his charitable involvement, helping to raise millions for local charities.
More than 33 years ago, John and Danielle started the successful Stardream group of companies. John has long been a supporter of charities and good causes across Lancashire.

Hide AdWith support from the radio station, £96,500 was raised to establish Blackpool Carers Centre – now Fylde Coast Carers Trust – where John remains patron. He actively supports the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC) and Blackpool’s Business Improvement District.
John and Danielle have four children Sam, 32, Ben, 30, Joey, 24, and Serena, 22.
The High Sheriff of Lancashire is appointed personally by The Queen, the role includes a duty to ‘protect and assist in upholding the dignity and well-being of Her Majesty’s Judges and to project the principles of encouraging responsible citizenship and respect for the diversity of the community.
