More than £90,000 has been raised for Meningitis Now fund in the name of Edward Dee in little more than 12 months after the 10-year-old died on the disease in December 2016.

Now his mum Elizabeth has set up a new charity, which will focus on providing cash for other projects, including some within the Fylde community.

The Edward Dee Fund will run alongside the Edward Dee Forever Fund for Meningitis Now and its first big fund-raising event comes this weekend when the New Monterey Hotel in St Annes hosts a party on what would have been the 12th birthday of Edward (pictured).

The new fund has already received a great kick-start with nine-year-old India Henshaw raising more than £1,000 in Edward’s name with a bake-off and slime factory sale at Lytham Hall Park School.

“The cash is being split between the two funds.

Elizabeth said: “Well done to India – I’m really proud of her and really touched.

“Obviously I am delighted with the amount we have raised for Meningitis Now and I intend to continue supporting it through The Edward Dee Forever Fund.

“But by setting up this other charity, the aim is that we can perhaps support other causes.

“These could be other meningitis charities, or child bereavement charities, or events or projects in this community, befitting of Edward.

“The response from the community has been really positive.”
