Sainsbury's supermarket in Blackpool town centre evacuated due to vehicle fire in car park

Shoppers and staff were evacuated from a supermarket in Blackpool town centre following reports of a fire in the car park.

Sainsbury’s in Talbot Road was cleared as several fire engines pulled up outside at approximately 3.40pm on Wednesday (October 25).

Lancashire Police later confirmed the supermarket was evacuated as a vehicle had caught fire in the car park.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said shoppers and anyone else who parked in the car park were allowed to collect their vehicles at around 5.40pm.

Traffic in the area was moving slowly following the incident.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “Our Blackpool superstore has now reopened after being closed for a short time this afternoon due to a fire in the car park.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for more information.
