Schoolgirl suffers head injuries in crash

A schoolgirl was taken to hospital with serious head injuries this morning when her bike collided with a car.

The 13-year-old girl was crossing the A583 bypass at the junction with Freckleton Street, Kirkham, at 7.15am and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

The driver of the silver Renault Megane was uninjured.

Police closed one lane of the dual carriageway to carry out their investigations.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said: “We were called to Freckleton Street at the junction with the bypass at 7.15 this morning.

“A school girl was in collision with a vehicle and taken to Royal Preston Hospital with head injuries.”
