FYLDE District Scouts are eagerly looking forward to moving into their new headquarters after the super success of an appeal for funds which topped £100,000.
With planning permission granted and tenders now being considered, it is hoped work on the premises can start this winter after the fires which devastated the HQ in Heyhouses Lane, St Annes in July 2010 and March this year.
At the District Scouts’ annual meeting, district commissioner Mike Smith thanked everyone for their support, especially those who helped with the fundraising – and newly-created ‘Thank You’ badges were presented to the fundraising team.
Fylde Mayor and Mayoress Couns Howard and Karen Henshaw were among the guests at the annual meeting, which was also attended by county commissioner Carl Hankinson.
The Mayor spoke of his long association with the scouting movement and wished the organisation success for the new building.
Various awards and recognitions were presented, while teenagers Jessica Dent, Jared Vann, Fraser Flegg and Joshua Chauhan spoke of their experiences at the Jamboree in Sweden this summer which attracted 400,000 Scouts from all over the world.
