Blackpool singing legend Joe Longthorne is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery for throat cancer.

Despite the gruelling operation, the crooner was said to have alreday been exercising his vocal cords, delighting staff by singing fans’ favourite, Danny Boy.

It is thought the 59-year-old performer will be in Royal Preston Hospital for up to two weeks as he recuperates.

His manager Eric Hall confirmed: “Joe had his operation on Wednesday.

“He is now recovering and the doctors seem very happy with how the surgery went.

“He is still in intensive care, but has been singing this morning already, so we know he’s still got his voice.

“The doctors are hoping he will be moved to a main ward by the end of the week.”

Resort favourite Longthorne was diagnosed with the condition in May, but assured fans he was “in the expert hands of my consultant and his staff.”

Joe is intending to work throughout this summer, having 74 tour dates booked, including a selection at Blackpool’s Viva Cabaret Showbar.
