Some like it hot '“ at new Blackpool restaurant

A touch of old-school Hollywood glamour has helped launch a new Blackpool restaurant in a well known hotel.

Steve Hopkins and wife Tina have created Norma Jean’s Bar and Brasserie at the New Sandringham Hotel in Reads Avenue.

The couple bought the hotel two and a half years ago and have invested more than £100,000 in refurbishing the premises.

The latest step is the restaurant open to the public and a sports bar for residents.

Steve, who also runs the Awesome Weekends visitor business, said: “My wife and I have a lot of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, we are big fans, and we thought it would make the ideal theme for the restaurant.”

Marilyn who became an icon after starring in such classic films as Bus Stop, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like it Hot, was born Norma Jean Mortenson.

“We are offering traditional British food with a modern twist.

“I got tired of going to restaurants , picking up the menu and having to ask the waiter what the things on it were, so we went for traditional.

“Our young chef Lyndon Caradice has worked in some great restaurants as a sous chef, the Punchbowl at Churchtown, Twelve at Poulton and at the Big Blue but here he is stepping up to the head chef role.

“We are really looking forward to our official opening, we have well-known Marilyn Monroe look-a-like Suzie Kennedy coming up from London to cut the ribbon.

“She has been is many films and TV programmes and has appeared in Blackpool many times.

“We will be having 50s and 60s music on the jukebox and there are seat for up to 80 members of the public and we will be opening it six days a week from 4pm to 11pm.”
