Stamp plaque celebrates Tower heritage

Blackpool’s heritage has been given the official stamp of approval.

A plaque has been unveiled in the resort to mark the role Blackpool Tower has played with Royal Mail.

The landmark has featured three times on Special Stamps which are issued to celebrate notable achievements and events.

This year Royal Mail is installing plaques on 50 post boxes around the country as part of the 50th anniversary of Royal Mail Special Stamps.

Blackpool Mayor Coun Peter Callow unveiled Blackpool’s plaque which has been put onto a post box in Talbot Square.

He said: “I am delighted Royal Mail has chosen this unique way to celebrate this iconic local landscape, through a stamp on a local postbox, giving the community an opportunity to share in this tribute to the Tower.”

Blackpool Tower has featured in three sets of Special Stamps - the Picture Postcards set issued in 1994, the A-Z of Britain Series of 2011 and in 2014 as part of the Seaside Architecture set of stamps.
