TESCO have taken over the former Booths

foodstore in St Annes – creating 20 new full and part-time jobs.

The 8,326 sq ft store is to reopen as a Tesco Express.

Tesco say they will start work on the site shortly and expect the new store to be open to the public later this year.

Preston-based commercial property consultants Robert Pinkus & Co confirmed this week the landmark building in The Square had been sold on behalf of Booths to St Annes-based property company Whiteside’s Properties.

Pinkus, acting for the new owners, negotiated the letting of the ground floor, basement and part first floor to Tesco who have acquired the store from Whiteside’s.

The upper floors will remain occupied by the Lou-Shang Cantonese Restaurant.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “I think it is all about convenience really – we spotted an opportunity to make it more convenient to shop.”

She added; “A Tesco Express is very much about convenience and most of our customers come within one kilometre of the store, typically on foot. It is very much about a top up shop.”
