The ‘invincibles’ of dance

A Fylde dance troupe has swept the board winning trophies galore and culminating in being crowned national champions.

The Broadway Stars Morris dancers, based in Fleetwood, has grown from strength to strength since forming in 1990.

During 2014 its junior team has been unbeaten, being named Gold Cup Champions, Excelsior Champions, Red Rose Champions, and recently became Junior National Champions at the National Etacco (English Town and Country Carnival Organisation) Championships,

Michelle Burke, who started the troupe in 1990, said: “I have been involved with dancing for over 39 years and this year I have to say has been our biggest achievements to date.

“We have competed in many competitions all over the north of England over the years and during 2014 our junior team have been unbeaten at every competition,

“I am delighted with the commitment and determination all the dancers have had this year.

“Due to demand we are hoping to start a second training night in Blackpool in early November. We welcome new or old members to come and join our champion troupe, including girls from school reception year to adults, to just come along and be part of our champion troupe,”

The troupe, which is also seeking sponsorship, meets at St Nicholas Church Hall on Broadway. A venue for the Blackpool training sessions has yet to be decided.

Other winners at the Etacco championships from the troupe were Cassie Newton who won senior leader of the year, Bella Bell won champion baby mascot, Oli Swales won champion junior mascot, Ellie Rimmer won champion junior leader and champion senior mascot, plus the top overall award champion of champions mascot of the year.

The senior team also won many competitions during 2014 including Red Rose Champions, Gold Cup Champions and overall senior champions at the national Etacco championships,
