A new-look playground in Ansdell is up and running.

A brass band, donkey rides, gymnastics, soccer shootout, stalls and food will all feature in the official reopening of Lansdowne Road Park on Saturday, September 7.

The £55,000 upgrade of the park, which includes a timber-framed zipwire among a range of new play equipment, safety surfacing, landscaping, seating and fencing, is the result of two years of planning and fund-raising by the friends@thepark volunteer supporters’ group.

They consulted with neighbours and liaised with Fylde Council and Lancashire County Council to plan a redesign and raised the required cash.

Along with proceeds of events such as a fun day, other contributions were received from Lancashire Environment Fund, Lancashire County Council, Fylde Council and the former Fylde Local Strategic Partnership.

Guests at the re-opening will include Fylde mayor Coun Linda Nulty and council leader Coun David Eaves.

Tracy Morrison, chairman of Friends@thepark, said: “We hope members of the community will come and join us at the celebration afternoon, which will also mark the relaunch of the nursery adjoining the park which has also been refurbished.”
