Plans for the first Lytham Arts Festival are moving on apace and include an extensive programme of events across town.
The event takes place from June 20 to 27 – and artists taking part will have the chance of winning prizes together worth a total of £1,000.
The announcement was made with the launch of the festival website, Facebook and Twitter pages and artists are already signing up to take part in the activities.
The funding for the festival has come after a successful bid by Lytham Business Partnership to Fylde Council’s High Street Innovation Fund.
A total of £24,000 has been granted over two years with the aim to find innovative ways of bringing shoppers and visitors back to the high street.
Festival organiser, Richard Marshall is keen to develop Lytham as a town of culture and art.
“What makes this arts festival exciting and different is that the shops and businesses in Lytham are very keen to play host to artists and work with them to develop some eye catching and entertaining displays and performances.
“Already, we have a textile artist planning to give demonstrations within an interior design shop, classical musicians, a guided heritage trail, artist’s open studios, poets, story tellers and some dynamic theatre productions that will all take place in or around the shops, businesses, cafes and restaurants in Lytham.”
There has been interest in the festival from artists as far away as Tennessee in the USA but Richard is keen for the local community to get involved.
“The success of the festival will be determined by the local support. I have already had a fantastic response from local businesses and artists but I am keen to hear from local community groups, businesses and individuals who have ideas to contribute, a venue for an exhibition or performance, or a talent that they want to share.”
