Police confirmed the incident was "damage only" and no injuries were reported.

"Bad bump at Norcross roundabout," one resident wrote on social media.

A spokesman for National Highways said: "We cannot speculate on the cause of incidents.

"However, the safety of road users is our top priority and we routinely review the operation of our motorways and major A roads to ensure they are operating as safely as possible.

"We delivered the roundabout improvement at Norcross junction to tackle congestion and make it safer and fairer for people negotiating the junction from the local road network.

"The layout of the roundabout is not unusual in itself but we are considering adjustments to make travelling through it more intuitive for drivers."
