Roadworks North Lancashire/Cumbria: Monday, April 19 to Sunday, April 25

M6 between junctions 32 and 33 (Turner’s Farm bridge)

Four 9pm to 6am overnight closures of the southbound M6 are taking place Saturday, April 17, and on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 18, 19 and 20 April. They mark the start of work to install a new support for the bridge in the verge alongside the southbound carriageway. The work will take around 14 weeks and involves a 50mph speed limit – backed by average speed cameras – through the roadworks zone. The speed cameras have been installed but will only be in operation from Saturday, April 17. Overnight closures of the southbound carriageway from junction 33 to junction 32 will be accompanied by a diversion via the A6.

M6 between junctions 35 and 37 (northbound)

Nine weeks of resurfacing work along the northbound carriageway started on Sunday, March 14. A single lane closure will be in place during the with two lanes closed overnight. Occasional slip road closures will be required during the work with clearly-signed diversions in place.

M6 between junctions 39 and 41 (northbound)

Five weeks of resurfacing work along the northbound carriageway started on Saturday, March 13. This involves lane closures with single lane running (at times using the hard shoulder) overnight. There will also be occasional overnight closures with a full closure of the northbound carriageway between junction 39 and junction 40 from 8pm, Saturday, April 17, to 5am on Sunday, April 18.

Other traffic management:

The northbound carriageway will also be closed occasionally at junction 40 with an off-and-on (up and over) diversion using the northbound exit slip and entry slip roads to leave and then immediately rejoin the motorway.

Some overnight slip road closures will also be required with clearly-signed diversions in place.

M55 junctions 1 to 3

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are now in place along a short stretch of the motorway where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.

A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool improvement

Work to deliver a £150m new bypass and junction improvements is now underway. The first major construction phase for the project is now underway with work at Skippool and Skippool Bridge junctions where there will be dualling a short section of the existing single carriageway A585 and replacing the existing roundabout with a signalised crossroads. Narrow lanes and a speed reduction will be in place. Work has also started away from the A585 to construct the new Poulton junction which will form part of the new bypass.
