Bispham Road was closed off at 2.30pm after a police car was involved in a collision with two other vehicles - a white BMW and a Peugeot.

The collision happened near the speed cameras at the junction with Stopford Avenue.

One witness who passed the scene described seeing several police vehicles surrounding the ambulance.

A police spokesman said: "It looks like it is a collision involving a BMW, a police car and a Peugeot.

"No injuries reported and the vehicles have now been recovered and the road re-opened."

Lancashire Police said there was "no suggestion of a pursuit" prior to the crash.

"It looks like the BMW was involved in a collision with the police car, which then collided with the Peugeot," added the spokesman.

North West Ambulance Service attended, but it said none of the cars' occupants required hospital treatment.

The damaged police car has since been recovered and Bispham Road reopened shortly after 3pm.

In an unrelated incident earlier this afternoon, police were called to reports of a stabbing near Bispham's Rock Gardens.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s have been taken to hospital with knife wounds.
