IT’S all change on the No 78 bus route through St Annes – but not on the roads originally earmarked to lose the route.
Bus users in Shepherd Road and Singleton Avenue have been given an extra six months until a further review of whether the service is wanted in their area.
Lancashire County Council, who are responsible for the buses, announced earlier this year that the 78 – which runs from St Annes to Wesham via Ansdell, Lytham, Freckleton and Kirkham – was to no longer run along Shepherd Road and Singleton Avenue after complaints from residents that the roads were not suitable for buses.
They particularly highlighted vibrations caused by the vehicles – but regular users of the buses said they didn’t want to lose the service in letters to the Express and via local councillors, and the county council has looked again.
“The route stays on those roads for the next six months and we will then review the situation,” said County Coun Tim Ashton, cabinet member for Highways and Transport.
But as from last weekend, the route now omits Clitheroe Road, to remove congestion around Clifton Primary School and Headroomgate will also not be part of the route, with the 78 instead going down St Leonard’s Road East from Folkestone Road.
