Zara Harris, a pupil at Heyhouses Primary School, St Annes, presented cheques for £4,000 each to Blue Skies hospital charity and Home Start Fylde as part of the carnival’s celebrations on Saturday

The procession boasted 62 entrants, who weaved through the town’s streets, past a packed Square to Ashton Gardens for a fun day.

Carnival committee chairman Angela Jacques said: “It went wonderfully well, it was buzzing. There were an awful lot of people and everyone had a wonderful day.”

A fair ground, paint blowing, dance groups and musical entertainment kept the crowd amused on the Gardens as well as craft and charity stalls.
