A vigil is to be held in Blackpool to pay respects to those who died in the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

This weekend, 49 LGBT people lost their lives in the horrific shooting, carried out by gunman Omar Mateen, who injured a further 53 people in the attack.

The gunman was shot dead by police after he retreated to a toilet and took hostages.

Blackpool’s LGBT community will hold a vigil tonight (Monday June 13) at 7pm on Queen Street – outside the Fyling Handbag.

The rainbow flag that was flying over the Town Hall at weekend is now at half mast, and the rainbow flag is flying from the Blackpool Tower which will be illuminated in rainbow colours this evening.

A statement from the Fylde coast LGBT Strategic Partnership said the event was a Blackpool community event and added: “Let’s stand together and show that love will always triumph over hate.”
