Village gears up for Field Day fun

Charlotte Vos, 11, will be crowned the new Rose Queen in succession to Eponie Jones, and her crowning will follow the traditional procession around The Green starting at noon.

Charlotte is a year six pupil at Ribby with Wrea Primary School whose hobbies include baking, roller skating and swimming.

Field Day, which celebrated its 90th anniversary two years ago, will feature family fun galore, starting with the judging of the fancy dress participants on The Green at 11.15am.

The Flyde Coast Cloggers will be performing outside the school at 11.45am prior to the retiring Rose Queen’s procession around The Green from noon. The Cloggers will be involved in the procession along with the Red Rose Brass Band, the the Accrington Pipe Band and many more.

At 12.20pm, Charlotte will be crowned by Laura McCormack from Wrea Green Pre-school and will then lead the second procession around The Green.

The arena entertainments, starting at 1pm, will include the Thornton Cleveleys Band and Blackpool Circus School and will be followed by the children’s races and children’s football.

As usual, a funfair will be on The Green along with farmers’ market stalls and other attractions include a twinning tea tent.

The roads around The Green will be closed from approximately 11.30am to 1.30pm.
