Visitors asked to dig deep and help Lytham Hall

Officials at Lytham Hall are appealing for public support as they come to terms with the shock blow of a £1.7m grant for restoration work being withdrawn by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The vital cash grant was turned down by the Lottery after it reviewed a revised application to develop the Grade One Hall and adjoining parkland.

It means essential work to the exterior and interior of the Georgian mansion, originally due to be completed at the end of next year, will have to be postponed even further.

Marianne Blaauboer, activity plan officer at the Hall, said: “We are still digesting the news, haven’t yet spoken to the Heritage Lottery Fund and in the meantime it is very much business as usual.

“We are keen to promote our upcoming events, especially the August bank holiday weekend with Danny, Champion of the World outdoor theatre on Sunday, August 28 and the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust vintage bus day on the Monday. Given that the latter is a free event, we hope people will come to support us and donate generously.

“The same applies for Heritage Open Day on September 11, when the buildings in the parkland will be open between 11am and 4pm, but not the Hall.

“We won’t go back on our promise of delivering these free events, but given the current situation, we would hope people show their support in whichever way they can.”
