‘We’ll replace charity coffee’

A Lytham Coffee firm is going all out to support the Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ on September 26 – by giving away free coffee to its customers.

Lytham Coffee Co is encouraging all of their cafe, restaurant and hotel clients to get involved by offering to replace all the coffee they sell that day for free. In the run up to the event they will be spreading the word to encourage as many people grab a coffee and donate to Macmillan.

Jeremy Smith, from Lytham Coffee Co, said: “It seems obvious that we should be supporting it given that coffee is our business, to be honest we feel a bit daft that we didn’t realise this a lot sooner.”

Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning started in 1990 with a fund-raising group who decided to hold a coffee morning where people donated the cost of their coffee and cakes to Macmillan. That seed of an idea has grown to become an nationwide event that has raised more than £113m.

Jeremy added: “Cafe Culture has become an established part of our world so this is a great way to fundraise. There is no doubt the growth in ‘proper’ coffee has driven this popularity as more and more people experience the range of fantastic flavours and realise that instant coffee just can’t measure up to it.

“There can’t be an easier way of fund-raising for this great charity than by sitting down and taking a break from the rush of modern life with friends or colleagues. It’s a lot less effort than a marathon. ’
