Pupils at the school were joined by 60 children from the village’s Strike Lane Primary as the Yorkshire-born writer of a host of award-winning books gave a presentation about his work.

Freckleton CE School deputy headteacher Joanne Owen said: “We were thrilled and honoured to have such a famous visitor and the children were very excited.

“Tom writes books for children on a range of themes including football, rugby, the First World War and detective thrillers and there are lots of his books in our school library.

“His books are recommended by the National Literacy Trust and Tom has been our chosen author of this term. That has meant the children have done research on him from his website and they have made an amazing display of book reviews and articles about him in our school library.”

Tom’s book Foul Play was short listed for the 2009 Blue Peter Book Award, while his work Ghost Stadium won the 2014 Leicester Libraries Our Best Book Award.
