Youngsters set craft sights high

Scores of youngsters shaped up in high-flying style for this weekend’s St Annes Kite Festival – by designing and making their own kites at a workshop held at the town’s library.

The creative session was part of the St Annes Art and Music Festival and was held in conjunction with the Fylde Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

Library manager Stephanie Wood said: “It proved very popular with children of all ages and we were delighted to see the enthusiasm they showed and the kites they produced. Some took them home while we have put others on display at the library.

“Everyone is looking forward to the Kite Festival and very proud of the Art and Music Festival so this was a great way to combine the two events.”

The library, on Clifton Drive South, is also hosting an exhibition of work by St Annes Art Circle entitled Books as Material as part of hte Arts Festival through this week, while on Friday evening, it is the venue for a free concert by musicians Joni Fuller and Alex Hulme, starting at 8pm.

The fourth annual Kite Festival is on St Annes seafront from 11am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday and will be accompanied by music on the beach, performed by local acts, from 12.30 to 5 on both days.
