While Fylde suffered their biggest defeat of the season at Coventry last Saturday in National League One, Ionians registered their first win of the campaign with a 31-20 success over Worting Raiders.

Nelson said: “It is a very attritional league and if you are not on your game then you are liable to slip up.

Hull Ionians beat Worthing last Saturday – Worthing beat Coventry, who beat us, so that puts Saturday’s match into context.

“Ionians will be on a high after their win and we will have to focus on our game and have the right shape and form.”

Nelson had no complaints about the 32-5 loss to Coventry, which came just a week after Fylde had produced the result of the season, ending Rosslyn Park’s unbeaten run.

He said: “I would say that on the display they produced against us that Coventry are the best side we have faced all season

“We were slightly off colour and we paid the price – we have good results season, but it us about getting to the stage where we do that on a consistent basis.”

Hull Ionians won for the first time at the 10th time of asking after a 31-20 win over fellow promoted side Worthing.

Lloyd Hayes kicked 16 points and scored a try and Hull be looking to build on that breakthrough success.
