AFC Fylde boss pays tribute to academy youngster

Manager Jim Bentley says everyone at AFC Fylde has been deeply affected by the death of academy player Luke Bennett.

The 17-year-old from Chorley was electrocuted in a tragic accident last Saturday.

Bentley said: “I’d just say as first-team manager that this has hit everyone hard, particularly within the youth team set-up.

“All the players and staff at the club who knew Luke are devastated by this tragedy and our hearts go out to all his family and friends.

“Luke was a likeable lad making good progress at the club. He had a reputation as a joyful character who was liked by everyone in the youth set-up.

“While we are concerning ourselves with whether or not our season will continue, this terrible event really puts everything into perspective.”
