Danny Rowe led the way with a hat-trick with Sam Finley (2), Simon Grand and Jack Muldoon completing the rout.

“It’s a great result against a really good team,” Challinor said.

“People will probably look at it and say ‘why can we score five, six and seven against the top teams and sometimes struggle against those at the wrong end?’

“Well, that’s football and some teams come here and try to stay in the game.

“I knew the game would be open between two teams that like to attack and they left themselves a little exposed at times.

“We played with a real intensity and tried to counter attack and we did that really well.

“Some of the goals that we scored were outstanding and we could have had more.

“Without being disrespectful at all, Aldershot are a lot better with the ball than without it. They can cause teams real problems but when they get bodies forward, they can leave themselves open.

“It was a game that we absolutely had to win the game and sometimes that’s easier against a team that want to come and play.

“It then becomes a ‘who is best on the day’. Well, we were fantastic on the day.

“We have come out on top and we probably need to come on top six or seven more times this season if we are to challenge for a place in those play-offs.”
