Barton's bid to make Fleetwood fans so proud

Here Ben shares his thoughts on the Cod Army's play-off prospects...

After eight months of grit, graft and spirit in the dressing room, it came as no surprise that the EFL League One season was curtailed after its three-month suspension.

In August, if you had offered me sixth place and a play-off semi-final against Wycombe Wanderers over two legs I'd have snatched your hand off.

But to go back into action after three months will be tough. We start at Highbury on Friday and it's going to be a difficult tie.

We need to start well, and I feel that if we do so we can be the stronger side over the two games.

The big news for me was keeping hold of the key loan signings who have been massive for us in our play-off charge.

Wycombe have a good set-up too. We've seen from our games against them that they play good football, are steady, organised and are hard to break down. However, I feel that over two legs we could do it.

Whatever happens over the next two weeks, we can say we’ve gone toe-to-toe with the big clubs in this league, like Ipswich, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Rotherham.

It's certainly been an interesting season: we started well, then went on a poor run around the turn of the year but came out of that with a 12-game unbeaten run. At our best, we’ve been excellent and a joy to watch.

Joey Barton has learned massively over his two seasons in charge and thanks to him we have a team to be proud of.

Let’s hope that in a couple of weeks promotion will be in our hands.

Just believe and be determined - and hopefully the big-game pressure doesn’t bite us again.
