"Edwards previously held the position of club secretary at Fleetwood Town for 11 years.

"A further announcement will be made in due course."

A permanent secretary will be appointed in due course.

The news comes after Cowdy was relieved of his role of chief executive at the weekend.

Less than an hour after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Bristol Rovers, the club released a statement revealing Cowdy’s exit.

The statement read: "Blackpool Football Club announces that Alex Cowdy is to leave his position as chief executive.

"Cowdy, who was appointed to the role of CEO in June 2016, after initially joining as club secretary three months earlier, will vacate his role with immediate effect.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Alex for his service and dedication to the role in his time at Bloomfield Road."

The news came as a shock as Cowdy was present at Blackpool's fixture and was seen in the tunnel area post-match.

Rod Dyer, meanwhile, has left his role as company secretary but remains employed by the club.
