Blackpool and Fleetwood Town to meet in the Papa John's Trophy

The Cod Army will host the Seasiders at Highbury in the last 32 in the regionalised draw with the match due to be played in the week commencing December 7.

Ironically, it will be the second time the two sides will encounter each other in a matter of days as they are due to meet in League One, again at Highbury, on the preceding weekend.

Blackpool booked their place in the last 32 after finishing second behind Accrington Stanley in Northern Group G.

Having beaten Barrow on penalties after drawing their opening group match 0-0, Neil Critchley’s players lost to Stanley via the same method next time out following a 1-1 stalemate.

They then ensured qualification with a 3-0 win against Leeds United’s Under-21s in their final group outing.

As for Fleetwood, Joey Barton’s players topped Northern Group A after winning all three of their matches.

They opened their 2020/21 season with a 3-1 victory at Carlisle United before beating Aston Villa’s U21s 3-0 at Highbury.

Town then completed a perfect group campaign with a 2-1 victory against Sunderland, the only other side who could have taken top spot from them.
